Certified Voluntary Benefits Specialist®

The premier qualification for voluntary benefits professionals

CVBS is officially recognized by the Voluntary Benefits Association®.

The CVBS Program

The Certified Voluntary Benefits Specialist® (CVBS) designation is awarded to the most qualified professionals working in the voluntary benefits field. The designation recognizes the ability to deliver customized voluntary benefits plans, tailored to organizations’ and employee’ needs.

The CVBS course is comprised of eight modules featuring the key elements required to understand contemporary voluntary benefits practices and successful plan administration:

• A detailed explanation of the education, communication, and administration processes
• An in-depth review of the key players in the industry
• A guide to products on offer (both insured and non-insured)
• Industry statistics portraying emerging trends
• Compliancy steps for federal regulations such as HIPAA and the ACA
• The impact of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) on voluntary benefits

In order to receive CVBS designation, individuals must complete the CVBS program online, or in person at an official VBA event. Special arrangements can be made for groups of 5 or more to receive onsite training at your location.

Maintaining certification requires specialists complete ten (10) hours of continuing education credits every two (2) years [up to 7.0 credits can be transferred from your insurance license CE state requirements leaving 3.0 direct CVBS credits every two (2) years]. This demonstrates CBS holders are up-to-date with best practices and current industry standards.
